How to Show Total Word Count
Select the Writing Tools menu.
Choose the Total Word Count option.
Word Count for a Section
Choose the section. E.g. a specific scene.
Click on the word count button 
The word count can als be shown as a chart.
Project Word Count Screen
To get a word count for a block of text select it and click the word count button
